Nothing that you have not given away will ever be really yours.
C.S. Lewis
Do you think, in the end, we all look back and see a similar theme? A singular strand, a general through line, a unifying virtue?
And then what unites us also distinguishes us, because our stories unfold as multitudes that eventually reflect back to one point. Like how every star is its own miracle, but taken together, the constellation tells us that we have a mindful Maker, provided we have eyes that believe what we do not see.
Because I’m not thinking about conflict. We know that every story needs one, and therefore life plays out on the plot of good versus evil, light against dark. But light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. So the story, every story, seems to hinge on seeking understanding and growing in wisdom to uniquely prevail in the victory already won. The battle belongs to the Lord, yet He still sends us into the fight.
I wonder if the theme – and the lessons to share with each other – is grasping the delicate, clumsy balance of letting go and holding on. Living life with open hands and treasuring what is true in my heart means Christ is sovereign over it all.
With hands to serve and hearts to love, our lives unfold as stories already written but still being revealed and realized.
