What Are We Working For?

abstract landscape

Minds work, hearts listen, souls wait;
together, we make room for the Spirit to move.

Many of us have been taught how to work, but when did we learn what we are working for?

To set food on the table, to keep the heat on, to put clothes on our backs. We call it sustaining, but what are we actually maintaining by waking up, going to work, and earning enough money so we can wake up and go back to work the next day?

What are we working for?

We are made for more – not to do more but to be more, not to make more but to give more. We are made for eternity.

I don’t understand hustle culture, and I am confused about how to set “SMART” goals when we’re taught to pray “give us today our daily bread” and leave tomorrow’s worries out there waiting.

Many of us were taught to work without being taught to pray about what our work means.

So we learned what we’re working for from a world that tells us, “Earned not given.” But generosity is the language of heaven, as Jesus says, “Freely you have received; freely give.”
